Acuity Q4 FY2026: can smart-spaces growth lift the quality of earnings?

Acuity's Intelligent Spaces business grew with higher adjusted margin, while the much larger Lighting business had flat sales and lower adjusted margin. The valuation question is whether the higher-growth portfolio can raise durable cash earnings per share across the company. This is a research framework, not a target price or trading recommendation.

Two disclosed facts used hereAIS sales $297.6m, up 16.6% · ABL adjusted operating margin 18.8%, down 130 bps

The price condition being tested

For a valuation that treats Acuity as a higher-growth, higher-margin intelligent-spaces platform to remain defensible, AIS must keep scaling at attractive margins while ABL at least stabilizes its revenue and adjusted margin. Group EPS growth alone does not prove that the mix transition is complete.

The relevant bridge is specific: sustained AIS growth and margin → stable ABL economics → durable adjusted cash earnings per share.

Evidence that partly supports the condition

The higher-growth portfolio scaled with stronger economics.

AIS adjusted operating margin: 24.9%, up 350 bps

AIS Q4 net sales rose 16.6% to $297.6m and adjusted operating profit rose 35.7%. Full-year operating cash flow was $825.6m, evidence that expansion is not limited to an accounting earnings claim.

Evidence that can still overturn it

The larger Lighting segment still has to stop losing adjusted momentum.

ABL sales down 0.4% · adjusted operating profit down 7.1%

ABL Q4 adjusted operating margin was 18.8%, down 130 basis points. In addition, the quarter included $44.9m of tariff refunds, so GAAP profit growth should not be treated as a clean operating run-rate.

The next disclosure checks

What must be verified before maintaining or changing a valuation view?

  1. Can AIS sustain double-digit sales growth while holding adjusted operating margin above 20%?
  2. Do ABL sales and the direct-sales network stabilize without further pressure on adjusted margin?
  3. Do adjusted profitability, operating cash flow and the per-share effect of capital allocation improve together after separating the tariff-refund benefit?
