FactSet Q4 FY2026: can stronger subscription growth fund a margin recovery?

FactSet closed FY2026 with faster organic subscription growth and a record increase in organic ASV, while adjusted operating margin was lower. The valuation question is whether that revenue momentum can fund a durable margin recovery and per-share cash growth. This is a research framework, not a target price or trading recommendation.

Two disclosed facts used hereOrganic ASV growth 7.0% · adjusted operating margin 33.0%, down 80 bps

The price condition being tested

For a valuation that assumes durable data-and-AI compounding to remain defensible, organic ASV growth must convert into a restored adjusted margin and durable cash earnings per share. Subscription growth alone is not enough if the cost to win and serve that growth keeps absorbing the incremental economics.

The relevant bridge is specific: sustained organic ASV growth → normalized incentive and technology expense → adjusted-margin recovery → durable free cash flow and per-share earnings.

Evidence that partly supports the condition

The recurring-revenue base accelerated at the end of the year.

Organic ASV rose $168.2m year over year to $2.568bn

Q4 organic revenue grew 7.1%, annual retention remained above 95%, and AI solutions ASV added during FY2026 more than doubled year over year. Those facts support the view that commercial demand is improving rather than merely being acquired.

Evidence that can still overturn it

Higher growth has not yet restored the incremental margin.

FY2026 adjusted operating margin: 34.5%, down 180 bps

Q4 adjusted operating margin was 33.0%, down 80 basis points, with ASV-linked incentive plans and technology expense cited as pressure. FY2027 guidance calls for 5.0%–6.5% organic ASV growth, so the next proof is whether the business can protect profitability while that growth normalizes.

The next disclosure checks

What must be verified before maintaining or changing a valuation view?

  1. Does organic ASV growth remain within or above the FY2027 5.0%–6.5% guidance range without a deterioration in annual retention?
  2. Does adjusted operating margin move into the FY2027 34.75%–35.25% guidance range as incentive and technology costs normalize?
  3. Do operating cash flow, free cash flow and the lower share count continue to translate the subscription base into stronger per-share economics?
